LASU Seeks  Security Officials’ Support in Maintaining Safety within and around  University

The Management of the Lagos State University, LASU, has appealed to heads of Police and Department for State Service, DSS, to support it in its drive to ensure that the lives and property of its staff and students in and around the University are safe.

The Vice Chancellor, LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, made the plea at a meeting held with some Divisional Police Officers in different locations in Ojo local government area down to Badagry

Speaking at the University’s Council Chambers, LASU main campus, Ojo, where the management of the university met with the security operatives, the Vice-Chancellor commended the security officers for the great job they had been doing over the years in keeping the community safe.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello stressed that since it was the responsibility of the University to secure the lives and property of staff and students within its care, it would always require the support of  various security organisations to live up to its responsibility.

According to her, the issue of security is everyone’s responsibility and as such it is important for the university management and other stakeholders to adopt the right strategies that will forestall issues capable of threatening the safety and wellbeing of staff and students of LASU.

The meeting deliberated extensively on areas of security concern such as cultism, kidnapping, rape, profiling of students among others.

Stakeholders at the event also agreed on the need for better civility, education, orientation and improved communication among all stakeholders.

The security officials on their part gave the assurance that they would continue to look out for the safety of lives and properties of students under their Areas of Responsibility (AOR) as a show of commitment to their partnership with the university.

Others who spoke at the event include the Chairman, LASU Security Advisory Committee, Prof. James Kehinde, Chief Security Supervisor, CSP Oluwole Ojo Rtd, DPO Onireke Division, CSP Smith Olanrewaju Kosebinu, Head, DSS Ojo Division, Mr. Ayodele Ogundoro, and DPO Satelite Division, CPS Oyin Francess,

The Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko and the President, Lagos State University Students Union, Comrade Moses Adelakun also barred their minds on the issue of safety within and around the Lagos State University.
