Late Chief Shonekan Laid To Rest In Lagos 
It was a parade of cream de la creme in the nation’s political landscape at the Ebony Vault and Gardens, Ikoyi in Lagos where the remains of a  former Interim Head of State, Chief Ernest Shonekan were committed to mother earth at exactly 10 minutes to three, this afternoon.
A 21 gun salute was observed in honour of Chief Shonekan, while being laid to rest.
The interment followed a funeral service held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina in Lagos. 
Some of the prominent personalities that attended the funeral service includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha;, the  Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Former President Dr. Good luck Jonathan and a Former Military head of state, Chief Yakubu Gowon.
Governors of Lagos, Ogun and Edo States also graced the occasion in company of their wives. 
In a homily, a former Primate , Church of Nigeria, The Most Reverend Peter Akinola, described the Late Chief Ernest Shonekan as one Nigerian that loved and served the country with all his heart. 
He advised those in various levels of authority in the country to emulate the late elder statesman so that the nation  would overcome its challenges and achieve meaningful progress.
The church auditorium was filled to capacity and  so many people had to stand outside the church just to pay their last respect to Chief shonekan.
Reverend Peter Akinola, while extolling the outstanding qualities of the Late Chief Shonekan, noted that he served the nation at a very challenging time, putting national interest above his wishes.
According to him,  Chief Shonekan had wanted to turn down the offer of serving as an interim head of state of Nigeria but had to take the position  because of his love for the nation.
He noted that he served the nation excellently well without compromising his faith, describing him as “a shining example of  Christianity”. 
“Those were not the best of time. At a point he declined, but reluctantly accepted eventually because of his love for the country. He did his best. He didn’t compromise his faith”.
To the family that he left behind, the Emeritus Primate urged to be strong and “not grieve like people without hope”.
In a tribute, the vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo said chief shonekan lived an extraordinary life in his service to the nation and humanity.

The Vice President who condoled the family of the diseased, thanked them for paying a sacrifice of releasing Chief Shonekan at that critical time in the history of the country.
Special prayer was offered for members of the family of the deasead for God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The remains of Chief Shonekan were prestigiously brought inside the church in a casket that was covered with “the green white green” Nigerian Flag and accosted by over 12 soldiers, each weaing a black arm band.
