The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho, has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the hospital management over unresolved welfare and workplace issues.
In a notice dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Chairperson Ojewumi Olutayo and Secretary Adedokun Mosunmola, the nurses warned of an imminent strike if their demands are not met.
The association accused management of neglecting key items in a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), implementing only the uniform allowance and cadre regularisation while leaving other pressing matters unattended.
The union lamented that the situation has led to financial strain, frustration, and burnout among members, eroding confidence in the hospital’s leadership.
Meanwhile, the Maternal and Reproductive Health Collective (MRHC) announced the successful training of 2,040 primary healthcare workers on respectful maternal care and 431 skilled birth attendants on emergency obstetric care in Lagos.
Speaking during the Iyaloju Initiative Participatory Forum in Lagos, MRHC’s Chief Operating Officer, Fumi Owosho, said the intervention is part of efforts to encourage women to seek skilled care during childbirth.
She noted that many women in Nigeria still face barriers such as cost, cultural preferences for traditional birth attendants, and poor attitudes from some health workers.
The forum, which drew community leaders, local government officials, and representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, reviewed progress under the programme and explored ways to further improve maternal healthcare services across the state.
