LAWMA Strengthens Waste Evacuation, Inspects Major Lagos Expressways

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has stepped up on-site assessment of highway sanitation operations as part of its ongoing statewide waste evacuation and operational optimisation drive.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this during an inspection tour covering key sections of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor.

According to him, the exercise was designed to strengthen targeted waste disposal interventions, enhance cleanliness, improve traffic flow, and ensure strict environmental compliance along major highways in the state.

The tour also extended to vegetal waste clearing activities along the median of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

The intervention focused on improving visibility for motorists, restoring orderliness, and sustaining routine maintenance standards along the busy corridor.

During the assessment, Dr. Gbadegesin reviewed operational deployment, equipment utilisation, workforce coordination, and overall service performance at various monitored locations.

He emphasised the importance of discipline, efficiency, and measurable outcomes, stressing that sanitation interventions must deliver consistent and visible improvements across Lagos highways.

The LAWMA boss noted that the ongoing statewide operational review is aimed at closing service gaps, optimising resource allocation, and reinforcing accountability among frontline personnel.

The inspection tour concluded at the Olusosun Landfill, where evacuation processes and disposal logistics were evaluated to ensure compliance with established operational standards and improved landfill management practices.

The Authority said the exercise reinforces its proactive oversight approach and commitment to maintaining higher environmental standards and improved service delivery across Lagos State.
