Legendary Nigeria Sports Administrator Re-emerges as President of FIBA Zone 3

One of Nigeria’s legendary sports administrators Colonel Sam Ahmedu (RTD) has been reelected as the President of FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball), Africa Zone 3 / Member of FIBA Africa Central Board for the 2023 – 2027 term of office.

Col Ahmedu, the proprietor of former Nigeria basketball League champions, Dodan Warriors, in a chat with sports journalist Eche Amos pledged to increase efforts to revamp the game of basketball in the region:

“It’s said that to whom much is given, much is equally expected.

“My re-election is a further call to redouble my efforts to make the body excel and attain newer heights.”

Eight member countries of the Zone voted at the election which happened on the sidelines of the FIBA Africa Congress held on Thursday 8th June 2023 in Mozambique.

The FIBA Zone 3 member countries are Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger and Liberia.

FIBA Africa Executive Council Member, Mr. Abdellatif Hatim of Morocco supervised the election.
