Lent and Ramadan Converge, Ajose Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace Unity

Nigerian Christians and Muslims have been encouraged to seize the uncommon convergence of Lent and Ramadan—both commencing on the same day this year—as a moment to strengthen peace, unity, and national stability.

In a statement, Badagry-born politician Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, popularly known as SMA Gold, described the simultaneous start of the two sacred observances as rare and deeply symbolic.

He noted that the overlap serves as a reminder that Nigerians of both faiths share common values and remain one people under God.

For Christians, Lent represents 40 days of fasting, abstinence, and penitence, reflecting the example of Jesus Christ’s time in the wilderness before His crucifixion.

For Muslims, Ramadan is a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection, marking one of the five pillars of Islam and signifying total submission to God.

Ajose urged adherents of both religions to embody the true spirit of the seasons by promoting good neighbourliness, fostering harmony, and offering prayers for Nigeria’s progress and security.

He also prayed that the lessons, blessings, and joys of the sacred periods would endure among Nigerians.
