Liverpool forward Diogo Jota dies in car crash at 28

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car crash at the age of 28.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Spain’s Zamora province, also claiming the life of his younger brother, André Silva, 26, who played for Portuguese second-division side Penafiel.

Spanish authorities confirmed that the brothers were in a Lamborghini when a tyre reportedly burst while overtaking another vehicle.

The car veered off the road and caught fire, killing both men at the scene.

Jota, who recently married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso and was a father of three, had shared photos of their wedding just days before the incident.

Liverpool FC said they are “devastated” by the loss of the Portuguese international, who joined the club from Wolves for £41 million in 2020.
