LSDPC Golden Jubilee: Sanwo-Olu Pledges to Prioritize Housing

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu says his administration would continue to prioritize housing to further make the State livable and viable as a growing megacity.

He renewed the promise at a symposium in Victoria Island to mark the fiftieth (50th) anniversary of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, LSDPC.

Themed: “Unfolding arms to Join Hands: Moving the Lagos Property Market Forward” the symposium which part of a three day activities to mark the golden jubilee was attended by stakeholders in the housing and built sector from within and outside the State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who was once a Managing Director of the Corporation thanked the management and staff for actualising his administration’s vision
and charged them to continue to chart a new path to ensure sustainability.

“It is only when we play our part well and do the right thing that LSDPC would live to witness another glorious 50 years and hand over to the next generation as one of the best legacies we have built. Every member of staff and management must undertake this personal responsibility in playing their roles and ensure the corporation does not go down under their watch. We must ensure we do everything to build the institution to outlive all of us working in it today,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In a goodwill message, the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, a former Commissioner for Housing in the State, commended the professionalism and continuity in the Corporation’s workforce and expressed support for further development of projects in the Victoria Island area and the entire Iruland.

The Oniru said “Congratulations to you all, you have made us proud and we will continue to be proud of you, as a Monarch, we’ll continue to support you, whenever you need us, whenever you need any parcel of land for housing development, beckon at us, we shall be there for you”

On his part, the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Housing Rosheed Makinde advised the LSDPC to use more local products in its construction and to manage land which is a scarce resource in Lagos.

In an address of welcome, LSDPC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ayodeji Joseph noted that the Corporation had been fulfilling its mandate of providing medium to low cost housing estates for the teeming residents of the State.

Explaining that since its commercialization in 2003, LSDPC had been partnering with private investors in the built sector to deliver various schemes, Mr Joseph stated that the occasion of the 50th anniversary provides another opportunity to take stock and re-strategise in housing Lagosians in particular and Nigerians in general

“In last five decades, we have fulfilled the vision of our founders. The next decades would be better and rewarding for the corporation, as we are opening new frontiers of innovation and partnership to deliver more safe, decent and sustainable housing schemes for Lagosians”, the LSDPC CEO said.

The presence of the LSDPC, which was established in 1972 can be seen across the five divisions of the State through various housing estates, including those popularly known as Jakande Estates and some others constructed under the public private partnership arrangements.
