Monarch Urges Tinubu to Begin Sokoto-Badagry Highway from Badagry Axis

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to ensure that construction of the ongoing Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway begins from the Badagry axis.

The call was made by Aholu Agano Toniyon I, the Aholu of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom, while speaking with journalists during his eighth coronation anniversary held at the Ajara Agamathen Palace.

According to the monarch, commencing the project from Badagry—particularly from the proposed bridge linking Tohon Badagry in Lagos State to Vawhegbo in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State—would restore hope and boost confidence among residents of Badagry and surrounding communities.

He noted that the proposed bridge, which is less than three kilometres long, is long overdue and would significantly reduce the hours commuters spend waiting for canoe services across the river on both sides.

Aholu Agano Toniyon I further stated that while the Sokoto–Badagry Highway project has attracted widespread commendation from stakeholders, starting construction from Badagry would demonstrate inclusiveness and address the long-standing infrastructural challenges of the area.

The royal father also lauded the Tinubu administration for initiating the highway project, describing it as a bold step toward national integration and economic development.

Correspondent Pentho Francis reports that dignitaries at the coronation anniversary included the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr Babatunde Hunpe; Aholu Temitope Sedonu-Adamson, the Topon Toyiaga of Ajitho Kingdom; the Onibereko of Ibereko Kingdom; Aholu Jimoh Fabiyi Sano Toyi I, Aholu of Koga Zebbe Kingdom; Aholu Abiodun Patinvo, Aholu of Yafin Kingdom; the Onilogbo of Ilogbo Kingdom; Aholu Awogbemi Emmanuel, Aholu of Akrakumo Kingdom, among others.
