Muslim clerics have admonished the faithful to imbibe the culture of righteous living to earn eternity afterward.
The clerics gave the admonition at the Companion’s 12th Annual Ramadan Lecture to rekindle the faithful’s faith in God and to instill good conduct.
The lecture organised by the Companion Alimosho USRAH Group, was held at the Lagos State University Auditorium.
Themed “Death a Unifying Factor: Preparing for the Inevitable Meeting with Our Creator”, the event also featured free medical treatment and lab tests for sugar level, prostrate, high blood pressure, and HIV while raw cereals and fruits were distributed to people.
Speaking at the event, the Justice, Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, HON. Justice Abdurraheem Ahmad-Kadi, who doubled as the Guest lecturer, stated that, righteous living was expected of every believer to make eternity.
Ahmad-Kadi, who described death as a necessary end that awaits everyone, urged people to live daily as if there is no tomorrow in an upright disposition toward others.
According to him, messengers of Allah should not be afraid of death and they embrace piety as a way of life.
“Strive to do good all the time and love everyone as you love yourself to make a better society where love and care for one another is supreme.
“Your ability to impact joy and happiness in others should be a legacy you should crave for always to be written as your epitaph after your transition.
“No matter how you live death awaits at a time therefore explore all avenues
to do well while alive for the people to give a good account of you at the time of reckoning.
“Fear Allah, do not be neglectful. The wise one is critical and judgmental of himself in every of his conduct.
“Prepare your will, make it legal to avoid friction in your family. Be ready for the inevitable end by mending your ways in accordance with Allah’s directives and be rewarded with eternity in paradise,” he said.
The Coordinator, Companion Alimosho USRAH Zone, Alhaji Kamor Ogunfowora, described death as the inevitable bridge that every soul must cross to arrive at the reality of another life.
Ogunfowora said that the choice of the lecture topic was not to scare people but to reconnect them with the need to prepare better for the inevitable meeting with the creator.
“The irony of life is that even though we see and hear people die now and then, as human beings, we often forget that death is a transition to the eventual meeting with our creator.
“The question is how prepared are we for the inevitable.
“Better still, the holy month of Ramadan is another opportunity that Allah, in His infinite mercy,y, has provided for us to reconnect with Him and redouble our preparation toward the inevitable meeting with Him.
“Let us take advantage of it. Let us use this month to repent, increase our good deeds, and seek Allah’s mercy so that when death comes, we will be among the successful candidates,” he said.
In his remark, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Mukhtar Abayomi-Adelaja, who doubled as the Chairman of the event, urged faithful people to co-habit peacefully with others saying the essence of humanity is to leave the earth better than we met it.
The Chairman stressed the importance of the Ramadan season, noting that assistance to the less privileged around one’s environment was prescribed tradition to make the best of the 30 days of fasting and prayer.
