To promote export trading of commodities and products approved by law, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, says, it is ready to fully automate the Export Licensing of Regulated Products to restore the glory of Nigeria in respect of harnessing the huge potentials of God-given resources to expand the wealth of the nation.
Addressing some of the challenges affecting export in Nigeria, the DIRECTOR-GENERAL NAFDAC PROF. MOJISOLA ADEYEYE, said the perennial state of international rejection of Nigerian exports could be attributed to negligence of regulatory supervision in the area of Food Safety and Quality, rejection of statutory stipulations of minimum requirements for products quality, packaging, and storage, conditions for shipping of regulated products in international commerce, Ignorance of the regulatory requirements from the Importing country.
” Others are, Sourcing products from the open market without considering intrinsic quality and state of commodities regarding pesticide residue, microbial load and aflatoxin content, which leads to sabotaging national interest on the altar of selfish and temporal gain, and most importantly, deliberate and myopic unprofessional practices such as adulteration of goods and commodities for weight gains “.

” The agency is determined to challenge the status-quo, ” i appeal for the support and goodwill of well-meaning exporters to cooperate with me as we work assiduously with relevant stakeholders like the CBN Trade & Exchange Dept, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Ministry of Trade & Investments, PIAs, towards the full automation of Export Licensing of regulated products on the National Single Window for Trade, where NAFDAC Licenses will be a requirement for issuance of Form e-NXP for regulated products “. She assured that, on the international scene, the agency will continue to work with the EU and British Governments as well as other importing nations to take down the Alert level of Nigerian Exports to comfortable levels while work in-house to positively reposition the nation’s export commodities “.
In his contributions, the Director, Port Inspection, NAFDAC, Dr. Abimbola Adeboye, said, the significance of the workshop is to make an effort at revamping the export process of Nigeria and NAFDAC-regulated products in the international market and prevent the country from international embarrassment.
In his remark, Director Southwest Regional, NEPC, Akintunde Folorunsho, stressed the need to conform to best practices in other to improve the country’s export strength.
