The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has alerted citizens to the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell milk twelve gram sachets across the country.
The alert posted on the agency’s website which warned that the counterfeit product, bore a close resemblance to the genuine brand, said the counterfeit product involved unauthorised use of the brand name, packaging design, NAFDAC registration number and trademark.
According to the agency, the packaging material of the counterfeit product used the old artwork “Our Milk,” while batch details were printed with ink instead of laser printing.
While warning that the use or consumption of the counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” poses serious health and safety risks, the agency directed all its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and mop up the counterfeit products in their areas.
NAFDAC also advised distributors, retailers and consumers to be cautious within the supply chain to prevent the distribution and sale of the fake product.
It further advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicion of sale of substandard and counterfeit food products to the nearest NAFDAC office, the phone number 0800-162-3322, or via email: [email protected].
