NAMA Gets a Pledge of Swift Funding from the House Committee Chairman

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Abdullahi Garba, has pledged to take swift action to ensure adequate funding for the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

He made this pledge during the 2024 Management Retreat of NAMA, held in Niger state, with the theme “Sustainability of Strategic Management and Leadership Development in Airspace Management: A New Approach”.

Represented by Mr. Esosa Iyawe, the Committee Chairman acknowledged the precarious financial situation of the agency, exacerbated by an inequitable revenue-sharing formula.

Mr. Garba emphasized the pivotal role of NAMA as the heart of the aviation sector in Nigeria and urged the Managing Director and his team to deliberate on meaningful recommendations aimed at enhancing safety in the Nigerian airspace.

In his presentation, NAMA’s Managing Director, Ahmed Farouk, urged the top management team to reaffirm their commitment to excellence and innovation in air navigation services.

He highlighted the importance of visionary leadership, strategic management, and collaboration in achieving NAMA’s objectives of safety, efficiency, and sustainability in Nigerian airspace.

Mr. Farouk expressed gratitude to the Committee Chairman and called for a review of the current revenue-sharing formula to ensure fair allocation of resources to NAMA.

Eight directors of the agency presented comprehensive reports on their stewardship since assuming their roles in December 2023, outlining their vision, mission, and achievements.

They also signed a recommitment bond, accompanied by key performance indicators (KPIs), aimed at evaluating performance and pinpointing areas for enhancement.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, spoke on behalf of the other directors, affirming their backing for the Managing Director.

They praised his outstanding leadership, which has driven significant advancements in NAMA’s growth and ensured safety in Nigerian airspace.

The Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, represented by the director of human resources, emphasized the importance of strategic management, leadership development, and collaborative efforts.

He stated that these factors serve as catalysts for advancing the efficiency and effectiveness of airspace management in Nigeria, ultimately guaranteeing safety.

Overall, the retreat aimed to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within NAMA, ensuring the agency’s continued growth and success in managing Nigeria’s airspace.
