The Managing Director, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, Mr. Ahmed Farouk says, the agency is set to flag off the Aeronautic Information Service, AIS Automation, having attained about 90% completion of the project.
He affirmed that the agency was leaving no stone unturned in its drive to inaugurate this laudable project given that the integration of AIS Automation into the operations of NAMA would boost their revenue generation profile.
Mr. Farouk represented by the NAMA’s Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary, Barr. Rita Egbadon announced this at the World AIS Day in Lagos.
He said, digitalization is key to development and the AIS Automation would bring about Geographic Information System (GIS) which will guide and enhance its operations, provide pilots with accurate data for operations, collaborate in decision making system amongst others.
Earlier in his opening address, the former President, Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN), Mr. William Ngerem, appealed to the Minister of aviation and Aerospace Development and the NAMA Managing Director, to sustain the unprecedented and renewed commitment to bring AIS Automation to completion as it would enhance air to ground communication as well as attract other benefits to the Nigerian airspace.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to review its policy on 50% automatic deduction at source from internally generated revenue of Federal Government agencies and ensure that NAMA is exempt from it due to the critical role the agency plays in the sector, stressing that the safety of air travel should be given priority over economic considerations.
The theme of this year’s AIS Day, “Efficient Data Management in an Automated Environment”, featured the election of new executives with Dr. Audu Ibrahim as the new President to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years.
