The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commenced a two-week on-the-job training (OJT) for Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPS) across its Lagos, Abuja, and Kano stations.

The training aims to equip participants with practical skills in maintaining and installing critical facilities that ensure seamless communication, navigation, and surveillance operations.

In a statement, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection NAMA, Mr Abdullahi Musa, training, which covers various facilities managed by the Department of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Power Systems, is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in learning new procedures and techniques.

He says, articipants will work directly with experienced supervisors to gain practical knowledge in areas such as Automatic Mains Failure (AMF), Automatic Voltage Regular (AVR), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Solar Power Systems, Electrical Installations, Cooling Systems, and Generating Sets.

The OJT also focuses on specialized skills such as welding, installation of air-conditioning compressors, and maintenance of solar power systems.

Also participants will also learn how to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of critical infrastructure, including UPS, AVRs, inverters, and generating sets.

According to NAMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, the training is part of the agency’s commitment to increasing the capacity of its technical and operational staff.

He emphasized that the training will ensure that the agency’s communication, navigation, and surveillance infrastructure continues to perform optimally, in line with International Civil Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices (ICAO SARPs).

The statement also notes that, the training is expected to enhance the skills of ATSEPS personnel, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to all NAMA installations across Nigeria, a critical component of air travel safety.

With this initiative, it adds, NAMA is taking a proactive step towards maintaining the highest standards of air traffic safety and efficiency in Nigeria.
