The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has officially acquired ownership of the Navigational Aids Flights Inspection and Surveillance (NAFIS) hangar in Lagos.

According to a statement signed by the Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NAMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, this marks a significant step towards enhancing the nation’s air navigation system calibration capacity.

The handover, he says, formalized in a ceremony at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, followed a period of inspection and asset verification initiated earlier in the week.

The transfer, executed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), included the hangar, a grounded HS-125 calibration aircraft, a ground power generator, a flight calibration laboratory, library, and various office spaces.

The ceremony, attended by officials from NAMA, NCAA, and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, culminated in the signing of official transfer documents.

Representative of the Managing Director, NAMA, Mrs. Terese Iheanacho, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition, stating that it will significantly improve the agency’s ability to calibrate air navigation systems and streamline operational efficiency.

The statement notes that, this move aligns with the federal government’s initiative to reposition NAFIS as a global leader in flight calibration services.

Mrs. Iheanacho underlined NAMA’s development of an indigenous flight calibration crew capable of performing routine and commissioning flight calibrations, and noted that the agency is now prepared to offer its services internationally.

She stated that, the transfer of the NAFIS hangar and associated assets is the implementation of a ministerial directive, further solidifying NAMA’s role in ensuring safe and efficient air travel.
