The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has received commendation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for its commitment to transparency and anti-corruption measures.
As contained in a statement, NAMA’s strong performance in the 2024 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) and Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Effectiveness Index assessment conducted by the ICPC earned the agency a score of 76.5%, signifying “substantial compliance.”
In a letter dated February 6, 2025, the ICPC acknowledged NAMA’s efforts in establishing structures and processes that promote efficiency and combat corruption.
The assessment, which analyzed NAMA’s documentation, also indicated a “non-existent status” in the ACTU Effectiveness Index, further highlighting the agency’s proactive approach.
NAMA Managing Director, Mr. Umar Farouk, expressed satisfaction with the ICPC’s recognition saying, “We are delighted with this commendation coming from ICPC as an integrity watchdog”.
“We are not surprised anyway, because at NAMA, we are highly professional in our processes and procedures. We know that safety is sacrosanct, just like we maintain zero-tolerance to corruption.”
He assured that NAMA will continue to improve its transparency and integrity rating and align with Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The ICPC’s annual EICS deployment, initiated in 2019, aims to promote transparency and accountability within Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The exercise evaluates institutional integrity, encourages innovation, and measures the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts in MDA operations.
