NANS Mobilises Students Nationwide Over Planned Tax Reform Implementation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commenced nationwide mobilisation of students to protest the planned implementation of the Tax Reform Law, which it said is scheduled to take effect from today.

The student body faulted the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for insisting on implementing the law despite what it described as unresolved issues and discrepancies in the gazetted version.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, NANS expressed disappointment with the fiscal and economic advice being given to President Bola Tinubu, warning that the move could trigger avoidable national tension.

According to the association, the FIRS failed to sufficiently engage critical stakeholders and the general public before pushing for the implementation of the law, describing the action as undemocratic and insensitive to the prevailing economic realities faced by Nigerians.

NANS, therefore, declared Tuesday, January 14, 2026, a National Day of Action, announcing plans to stage a peaceful protest at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The association said the planned demonstration is aimed at drawing the Federal Government’s attention to students’ concerns and the potential socio-economic impact of the tax reform.
