The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has announced the investiture of Professor Anthony Nnaemeka Ikefuna as its 24th President.
In a statement signed by the College Registrar, Professor Temitope Esan, says Professor Ikefuna was elected at the 137th Governing Board Meeting held on December 5, 2025.
His investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place at the College premises on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Professor Ikefuna, a renowned academic and paediatrician, is a graduate of the University of Ibadan, where he studied Medicine on a Federal Government scholarship.
He later specialized in Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, and rose to the rank of Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2011.
Within the College, Professor Ikefuna has served in several strategic positions, including Vice President, Chairman, Secretary, Senate Member, and Chief Examiner of the Faculty of Paediatrics.
He also chaired key committees such as the Quality Assurance Committee, Disciplinary Committee, and the Senate Committee on Credentials and Fellowship Award.
He has been actively involved in coordinating examinations, accreditation visits, and mentoring fellows under the College’s training programmes.
The new President has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and authored book chapters widely used by medical students and resident doctors.
He has supervised more than 70 Fellowship dissertations, as well as numerous postgraduate theses, with many of his mentees attaining senior academic and professional positions.
Professor Ikefuna is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, a Foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.
The Management and Staff of the College congratulated Professor Ikefuna on his investiture and expressed confidence in his leadership to further strengthen medical education and professional standards in Nigeria.
