NBC Inspects, Passes Isokan FM, Lagos’ First Local Government-Owned Radio Station

In line with the mandate to ensure high broadcasting standard in Nigeria, the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has inspected and passed the first local government-owned radio station in Lagos, Isokan FM, owned by Mushin Local Government Area.

During the inspection, the Lagos Zonal Director of NBC, Mr. Ralph Akpan commended the effort of Chairman of Mushin local government for the initiative to create a befitting radio station in Mushin, urging other political office holders to follow suit by using government resources for project that will benefit the general public.

Mr Akpan said that the Agency’s inspection and approval of Isokan FM demonstrated the Commission’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the broadcasting industry.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to support community broadcasting initiatives that cater to the information, education, and entertainment needs of local communities.

In his speech, the Chairman of Mushin local government, Mr Emmanuel Bamigboye noted that the milestone achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the development of community broadcasting in Lagos State.

Mr Bamigboye stated that Isokan FM, which is expected to commence operations soon, will provide a platform for local voices, perspectives, and talent, thereby promoting community engagement, social cohesion, and cultural diversity, create employment and generate revenue for the government.

He expressed gratitude to the NBC for its support and guidance throughout the licensing and inspection process.

The Mushin Council boss also assured the public of commitment of the Isokan FM to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and responsibility in its operations.
