The Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, says effective industrial relations remain critical to ensuring safety and operational stability across the aviation sector.
Speaking in Lagos at the opening of the joint training programme by International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations, IFATCA and the International Transport Workers’ Federation, ITF, Captain Najomo said the initiative comes at a critical time as the industry faces rapid technological changes and increasing operational demands.
He noted that effective dialogue and mutual understanding between management and staff remain essential in a safety-critical sector like aviation, warning that disruptions could have far-reaching consequences for operations, economic stability and public confidence.
The NCAA boss commended IFATCA and ITF for promoting negotiation skills and social dialogue, stressing that constructive engagement should always take precedence over industrial action.
He also reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to fostering a fair and safe working environment.
While declaring open the workshop on Industrial Relations and Negotiating Skills, the DGCA urged participants from across Africa and the Middle East to fully utilize the training to strengthen collaboration and build lasting professional networks.
