NDLEA Foils Massive Drug Haul in Lagos, Arrests Three Suspects

In a major operation, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted three trailer loads of opioids at Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state. 

The haul, valued at millions of naira, consisted of 3,450,000 pills and 344,000 bottles of codeine syrup.

According to a statement by NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure. 

The suspects, identified as Cosmas Obiajulu, 51, Ridwan Balogun, 25, and Banjo Tayo, 30, were arrested at a large warehouse in Abule-Ado where the drugs were being stored.

The drugs, Mr. Babafemi said, were loaded into two 40-ft container trucks and another 20-ft truck at the AML bonded terminal, Abule-Osun, before being transported to the warehouse. 

In a related developments, NDLEA operatives also arrested a suspect, Nwankwo Ejike, in the Coker area of Lagos, where 100 litres of codeine syrup were recovered from him and another suspect, Clinton Akinye, was arrested in the same area, with 60 litres of codeine syrup seized from him.

Giving a further breakdown of their operations, the NDLEA spokesman said, a Toyota Camry car was intercepted at Mile 12 area of Lagos, with 37.5kg of cannabis sativa recovered from it anda suspect, Adegbola Segun, 47, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

In a separate operation, consignment of opioids consisting of 59,106 pills of tramadol and different quantities of codeine syrup and rohypnol being taken across the border to Garua, Cameroon was also intercepted.

The Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the agency’s officers and men for their efforts in combating drug trafficking. 

He assured that the agency will continue to work with local and international partners to ensure that the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking is brought to the barest minimum in Nigeria.
