NDLEA Intensifies Crackdown, Arrests 93-Year-Old, Doctor Over Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting a range of suspects, including a 93-year-old man and a 69-year-old medical doctor, in a series of intelligence-led operations.

NDLEA spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi, says operatives stormed a community in Abia State where they arrested 93-year-old Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, recovering over seven kilograms of skunk from his residence.

The nonagenarian reportedly admitted to long-term use of cannabis, claiming he ventured into the illicit trade just over a year ago.

In a separate operation, efforts to dismantle an international drug network led to the arrest of an Ivorian national at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with cocaine concealed in his body while attempting to board a flight to Italy.

Further investigations uncovered the involvement of a medical doctor, Chudi Daniel Ofomata, who was later tracked to Ogun State and arrested with controlled substances.

Across the country, multiple raids yielded significant seizures.

In Ogun and Imo states, large quantities of cannabis were recovered from suspects, including a 26-year-old woman intercepted along the Onitsha-Owerri road.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial bus along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, uncovering concealed drugs and arresting two suspects.

Meanwhile, in Abuja, a raid on a notorious drug hub resulted in the arrest of eight individuals and the recovery of more illicit substances.

The NDLEA says these operations emphasizes its renewed offensive against drug cartels and warns that no individual, regardless of age or status, will be spared in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking.
