The new Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda has promised a friendly working relationship with the other arms of government in the state.
Mrs Meranda, who stated this at her maiden plenary on Friday, said for the state to provide the needed dividends of democracy to the people, there was the need for a good relationship with the other arms of government.
She said, “As we begin this new chapter in the history of our Assembly, I want to assure you that our administration will focus on working together for a better legacy.
“We will work harmoniously with other arms of government to ensure a seamless delivery of dividends of democracy to Lagosians who are our focus.
“Therefore, we will work to ensure that irrespective of gender, education, religion, and ethnic background, every Lagosian is proud to say, I am a Lagosian.
“The synergy between us and other arms of government is crucial in this regard for effective governance and democratic development.
“To achieve this, we must commit to maintaining open lines of communication with the executive arm, being led by Mr. Governor, fostering a spirit of cooperation in good deeds, and mutual respect in our relations with one another.

“By doing so, we can and must ensure that our legislative action aligns with the executive vision for a better state for the good people of the state, so that we all can leave the state far better than we met it,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has appointed new principal officers at its first sitting after the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was removed.
They are Mr Temitope Adewale (Ifako Ijaiye 1) as the new Majority Leader, Mr Richard Kasunmu (Ikeja 2) retained his position as Deputy Majority Leader, while Mr David Setonji (Badagry 2) is now the Chief Whip, while Mr Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe 1) is the new Deputy Chief Whip.
The plenary was attended by thirty-seven members of the House, while the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, ex-Majority Leader, Naheem Adams and Mr Akinsanya Nureni were absent.
