The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos as the venue for the 2025 President Federation Cup Final, scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 28.
This marks the second consecutive year the waterfront stadium — formerly known as King George V Stadium, Lagos City Stadium, and later Onikan Stadium — will host Nigeria’s oldest football competition finale.
The arena was the stage for the 2024 final, where El-Kanemi Warriors triumphed over Abia Warriors in the men’s game, and Rivers Angels edged Naija Ratels 1–0 to claim the women’s crown.
Historically, Lagos State has hosted 60 finals of the tournament, formerly known as the Governor’s Cup, FA Cup, Challenge Cup, and Federation Cup.
Of these, 18 finals were played at King George V Stadium between 1945 and 1962, before the shift to the newly built National Stadium, Surulere in 1974, which later hosted 22 finals — the last in 2002.
Other venues over the years have included Teslim Balogun Stadium, Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Aper Aku Stadium, Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Liberation Stadium, MKO Abiola Stadium, Sani Abacha Stadium, Agege City Stadium, and Stephen Keshi Stadium.
This year’s final promises excitement as Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi, surprise contenders, face Kwara United FC of Ilorin in the men’s showdown.
In the women’s final, reigning champions Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt will go head-to-head with Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia in what is expected to be a thrilling contest.
