…calls for ongoing Assistance Beyond Festive Seasons
A heartfelt plea has been issued to compassionate individuals, corporate entities, and governmental bodies to extend a helping hand to widows across the nation during these challenging times, aiming to provide them with a sense of support and inclusion.
During a recent event where food provisions were distributed to widows in Fagba, Agege local government, Lagos State, Dr. Ebele Okoye, the founder of Jedidiah Divine Home of Love (JEDLOF), a non-governmental organization, expressed dismay at the treatment widows often endure from both governmental institutions and individuals.
Dr. Okoye stressed that assisting widows transcends occasional food aid during festive seasons, highlighting the daily struggle many face to feed themselves and their families.
She lamented the financial obstacles hindering widows from providing better education for their children, citing the inability to afford school fees and adequately prepare for examinations such as the West Africa School Certificate Examinations.
In an effort to alleviate some of these burdens, Dr. Okoye revealed that the JEDLOF foundation had undertaken initiatives such as covering rental expenses for widows, sponsoring students’ education, and facilitating their enrollment in important examinations.
However, she emphasized that such support is never enough and called for sustainable solutions, urging the government to take proactive measures in assisting widows and encouraging individuals to engage them in productive activities.
Dr. Okoye reminded Nigerians of their collective wealth and the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need.
She stressed that widowhood should not be viewed as a sickness but rather as a life circumstance that requires compassionate intervention and practical solutions.
