NIGAV 2023: Keyamo Affirms FG Commitment to Bolster Domestic Airlines

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting domestic airlines in tackling their challenges.

Speaking at the recently held Nigeria Aviation Awards (NIGAV) 2023 with the theme “A Strategic Repositioning of the Air Transportation Sector” in Lagos, the Minister acknowledged the harsh economic environment faced by these operators.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr Festus Keyamo said, the government is aware of the difficulties airlines face, including limited access to foreign exchange, high interest rates, rising fuel costs, and infrastructure shortcomings.

He emphasized the aviation industry’s pivotal role in national growth and progress, highlighting their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Keyamo further elaborated on the government’s plans to address these challenges, aligning them with his key performance Indicators aim to assist, promote the growth, and protect Nigeria’s airline operators.

“We are all partners in trying to improve customers experience at airports and on our part, we have so much we are doing and in the next few months you will be proud of us at the kind of efforts we make”.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented by Mr. Ifiok Bassey, in his key address emphasized the renewed hope agenda of the government, positioning the aviation industry as a vital instrument of development.

Senator Akume reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining high-level safety records while improving travel confidence and the overall performance of the sector.

Co-chairman of the NIGAV Awards Committee, Dr. Richard Aisuebogun, reviewed the year 2023 and expressed optimism for 2024. 

He commended Nigerian airlines for their recent aircraft acquisitions and route expansions, anticipating a more vibrant industry in the 2024.

“This indeed are beautiful things for our industry because we really deserve to have new aircraft in our Airspace”.

Mr. Fortune Idu, organizer of the event and chairman of the Airport Business Summit, further highlighted the importance of celebrating excellence in the industry through the NIGAV awards.

“This program allows for unification of the airlines, helps to promote positive competition and social integration”.

The NIGAV ceremony culminated in the announcement of the “King and Queen of the Air” and the presentation of awards to various aviation agencies, airlines, and service providers in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the industry.
