‎NIGCOMSAT Sets N8bn Revenue Target Through Broadband Expansion

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT, has announced plans to boost its revenue by N8 billion within the next three years through an aggressive expansion of broadband services nationwide.

‎Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, disclosed this at a stakeholder roundtable in Lagos. She explained that broadband remains the company’s most profitable service, yet only seven percent of its total capacity is currently in use.

‎According to her, the company’s broadband potential can support critical sectors including education, healthcare, defence, fintech and local governance, but greater private sector collaboration is needed to fully unlock these opportunities.

‎Mrs. Egerton-Idehen revealed that under “Project 774,” NIGCOMSAT successfully connected 45 local government secretariats across eight states within two months — a feat she noted was faster than what fibre cable providers could achieve.

‎She stressed that with just 250 staff, NIGCOMSAT cannot cover the vast Nigerian market alone, hence the need for channel partners and resellers to help deliver services across schools, health centres, government offices and even to neighbouring West African countries.

‎The NIGCOMSAT boss pointed to the success of other state-owned enterprises like Egypt’s NALSAT and Nigeria LNG as evidence that government-owned companies can be both profitable and impactful.

‎She assured that NIGCOMSAT will provide technical support, co-branded marketing, and flexible partnership models to strengthen collaboration with private operators in driving broadband penetration.
