The new leadership of the Nigeria America Chamber of Commerce has
advocated a Return to the Farm for Nigerians as a panacea to food security and economic prosperity.
President of the Nigeria – America Chamber of Commerce, Alhaji Sheriff Balogun made the pledge at a News Conference held in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Alhaji Balogun said Agriculture remained a potent solution to poverty and insecurity, citing the economic value of crops like Sesame seeds, which is Nigeria’s leading non -oil agro – export.
He pledged the sustained implementation of strategic initiatives including the active engagement of the federal government’s African Growth and Opportunity Act, AGOA Implementation Strategy and addressing Small Medium Enterprises challenges within the national economic and security framework.
Alhaji Balogun also made commitments of the Chamber to SME Development and Training, Export Focus Group, Financing Opportunities, Geographical Crop Identification and Trade Missions and Expos.
Chairman of the Sixty- fifth Anniversary and Presidential Inauguration Dinner and Awards of the Nigeria -America Chamber of Commerce, Dr Ikenna Nwosu, said the event coming up in April in lagos, would be a day to attract global attention to successes of the oldest trade and bilateral chamber on the country.
According to Dr Nwosu, the event will also mark the launch of new headquarters building, to symbolise growth and commitment of the Chamber to excellence.
Other members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria America Chamber of Commerce include Mr Ehi Braimah as Deputy President, Ambassador Adedayo Idowu as Vice President, Chief Tobi Oduyale as Treasurer, Ms Yemisi Ogundipe as Deputy Treasurer and Ms Wofai Samuel as Acting Director General.
