Nigeria Exhibit Ruthless Form in 2023 Davis Cup Tournament

The hundred percent winning record of Nigerian tennis players continued today at the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group IV tournament in Rwanda.

The Benson Archie’s captained Nigeria squad hammered their Mozambican opponent 3-0 after two singles and a doubles matches.

David Ekpeyong stepped up first to demolish Jaime Sigauque 6-0, 6-1 before Christopher Lawal obliterated Luca Figueiredo 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles tie.

In the doubles, the duo of Peter Lawal and Uche Oparaji mesmerized the Mozambican pair of Edison Rosa and Luca Figueiredo 6-4, 6-4 to ensure Nigeria lead in group B standings.

Team Nigeria’s six game winning streak will come under some test tomorrow when they file out against hosts and second placed Rwanda.

Ghana, on a 4-2 win loss record, lead pool A while Kenya are in second place with similar record.

The top two teams from the two round robin pools of A and B will qualify for the semifinal where winners will pick up the two promotional tickets to Group III of the Davis Cup Africa competition.

The competition in Rwanda will come to a close on 29 July 2023.
