Nigeria Smash to Empathic Win in 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group IV Opener

Nigeria jumped to an impressive start in the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group IV international tennis tournament after dismantling Angola 3-0 today.

First on the clay court for Team Nigeria was Wilson Igbinovia who outslugged Fernando Andre 6-1, 6-3 while Christopher Bulus beat Chris Lukanu 6-4, 6-4.

In the doubles game, the Nigerian duo of David Ekpeyong and Uchenna Oparaji combined to defeat the Angolan pairing of Fernando Andre and Denilson Bento 6-3, 6-2 to wrap up an emphatic win for Nigeria.

Up next for Nigeria tomorrow in Pool B is a clash with Mozambique who lost 0-3 to hosts Rwanda earlier today.

Top two teams from the two round robin pools of A and B will qualify for the semifinal where winners will pick up the two promotional tickets available in the competition.

The competition will come to a close on 29 July 2023.
