Nigeria Striker Voted Best Player As Flamingoes Go Goal Crazy At FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria rebounded into contention at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup today following a 4-0 trouncing of New Zealand in a group B game played in Goa, India.

The Flamingos, who lost narrowly 2-1 to Germany on Tuesday, started spritely and came close a number of times before Aminat Omowunmi Bello headed into the net after a sweet pull-out by left-back Tumininu Adeshina.

Striker Opeyemi Ajakaye

Star striker Opeyemi Ajakaye terrorised  opposing defence line with her speed and constant attacking forays yet the goal refused to come.

However her effofts were enough to earn her the Woman Of The Match award.

In the 34th minute Right-back Miracle Usani made it 2-0 in favour of Africa’s best team while midfielder Taiwo Afolabi scored Nigeria’s third by swinging the ball into the top right corner from 20 yards.

Substitute Etim capitalized on a defensive blunder to lift the ball past the opposing keeper for Nigeria’s 4th goal as the victory  catapults them into contention for knockout stage qualification if they defeat Chile on Monday afternoon at the Kalinga Stadium.
