Nigeria Taps Artificial Intelligence to Drive $1 Trillion Economy Goal

The Federal Government is banking on artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transforming Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy by 2030, according to the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.

Tijani’s remarks come shortly after his recognition in TIME Magazine’s 2025 list of the 100 most influential personalities in AI, where he was named alongside global tech leaders like Elon Musk of Tesla and Sam Altman of OpenAI.

Highlighting Nigeria’s progress, the minister said the country is building a strong foundation through a national AI strategy, research programmes, and partnerships with international tech firms.

“We brought together over 120 Nigerian experts to co-create a long-term strategy for the responsible use and development of AI,” Tijani shared on LinkedIn.

“This recognition reinforces our belief that Nigeria can emerge as a global leader in inclusive AI deployment for productivity.”

The framework for Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy ambition was officially endorsed by the National Economic Council (NEC) last week.

With AI at the center of its digital transformation drive, the government insists it has a clear roadmap to position Nigeria as a major player in the global technology economy.
