Nigerian businesses are setting a global standard in balancing artificial intelligence (AI) adoption with robust privacy protection.
This was revealed in a new study by Zoho, a global technology company.
The study, titled “The AI Privacy Equation: The Nigerian Model of Responsible AI Adoption,” was conducted by Arion Research and revealed that 93% of Nigerian organizations have already begun their AI journey.
The study also showed that Nigerian businesses are embedding AI responsibly, with 94% of organizations having a dedicated privacy officer or team.
The financial sector is pioneering the balance between innovation and compliance, with 29% of respondents prioritizing customer service automation, software development, and marketing optimization.
Zoho also announced a 75% customer growth in Nigeria in 2024, driven by increasing demand for scalable, unified solutions.
The company’s top products driving revenue growth in the country include Zoho Workplace, Books, Campaigns, and Zoho One.Speaking at an Annual User Conference at Eko hotels in Lagos, The Country Head, Zoho Nigeria, Kehinde Ogundare said the research revealed that…. “Nigerian businesses are leading the way in responsible AI adoption, tempering the new technology with privacy measures”.
This mirrors Zoho’s philosophy of building contextual and privacy-first AI models that can help businesses realize tangible benefits.
Ogundare in a presentation pointed that the study revealed that while lack of technical expertise is cited as the top-most barrier by 37% of the businesses in the area of AI Upskilling and Barriers , privacy and security concerns were identified as the next biggest challenge, cited by 35% of the respondents.
The report notes skills development as a defining feature of the Nigerian model, with 69% of organisations prioritising data analysis and interpretation skills, 53% emphasising on AI literacy, and 40% of organisations investing in prompt engineering skills for generative AI tools and further noted that Nigerian organisations recognise that AI success depends more on human capability development than technology acquisition.
The study highlights a uniquely Nigerian blueprint for responsible AI adoption, one that integrates executive leadership, privacy-first approaches, skills-focused development, customer-centric approach, and regulatory readiness.
By embedding these elements into their digital transformation strategies, Nigerian businesses are demonstrating that AI innovation and privacy protection can advance hand in hand, creating both trust and long-term competitive advantage.
In a remark, Michael Fauscette, CEO & Chief Analyst, Arion Research LLC, noted that the Nigerian model challenges the conventional wisdom that AI adoption requires privacy trade-offs.
When 84% of organizations strengthen their privacy measures through AI implementation rather than weakening them, it demonstrates that privacy-conscious design can actually enhance AI outcomes.
Arion Research LLC surveyed 386 Nigerian Business Leaders on AI Implementation and Privacy Protection using a comprehensive online questionnaire in June 2025.
The study targeted professionals and businesses from medium and large organisations across various industries.
