Nigerian Navy Destroys Drug Hideout, Hands Seizures To NDLEA

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has raided and destroyed a suspected criminal hideout in Gidan Drama, located at Agbo Malu, Apapa, Lagos State.

The operation was carried out by personnel of NNS BEECROFT following credible intelligence indicating the presence of suspected drug peddlers operating from the area.

Speaking during the handover of recovered items, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Rear Admiral Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, who was represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, disclosed that several illicit substances were recovered during the raid.

According to him, the seized items included cannabis sativa, codeine, and other banned substances.

He, however, noted that no arrests were made, as the suspected drug dealers fled the area upon sighting the naval operatives.

Captain Udoessien stated that the successful recovery of the illicit drugs reflects the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to curbing the spread and abuse of illicit substances, particularly among youths, noting that drug abuse poses serious threats to public health and national security.

He added that NNS BEECROFT would continue to support inter-agency efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks within its area of responsibility.

The recovered illicit substances were subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Receiving the items on behalf of the agency was the Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Azu Charles, of the NDLEA Festac Area Command, for further investigation and necessary action.
