NIHOTOUR, FAAN Ignite Abuja Airport with “Service in Motion” Celebration

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), in collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), brought excitement to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with a surprise “Service in Motion” flash mob to mark this year’s Customer Service Week.

The energetic performance, featuring NIHOTOUR trainees and FAAN personnel, delighted passengers and airport staff as it turned the busy terminal into a stage showcasing Nigerian culture and service excellence.

According to the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, Dr. Abisoye Fagade, the event was designed to redefine how Nigerians perceive service delivery.

“We are redefining what service means in Nigeria,” he said. “Service is not just a duty; it is a culture, a rhythm, and an identity. This flash mob symbolizes how deeply hospitality lives in our people and how Nigeria can lead Africa in service excellence.”

The creative display drew applause and participation from travelers, many of whom captured the moment on video and shared it online.

Within hours, clips of the performance had gone viral across social media, with many Nigerians commending the initiative for bringing energy and positivity to a government institution.

The event aligns with the Federal Ministry of Tourism’s service transformation agenda under the Renewed Hope Vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes innovation, youth inclusion, and excellence in public service.

Under Dr. Fagade’s leadership, NIHOTOUR has focused on improving tourism training, digital skills, and service innovation.

The “Service in Motion” initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to professionalizing Nigeria’s tourism workforce and promoting national pride through hospitality.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, praised the collaboration and reaffirmed the authority’s dedication to enhancing passenger experience across Nigeria’s airports.

“Customer service is at the heart of aviation,” she said. “Today’s activation reminds our staff and citizens alike that service with a smile is the best form of national branding.”

The initiative underscores NIHOTOUR’s broader efforts to raise standards across the hospitality and tourism sectors, from culinary arts and hotel management to customer service certification.

The Abuja flash mob, officials say, represents a symbol of unity and optimism — proof that government agencies can inspire the public through creativity, professionalism, and collaboration.
