The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Friday to Sunday, even as parts of the South, including Benin City, experienced a thunderstorm on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
NiMet, in its weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, said the northern parts of the country are expected to enjoy sunny conditions throughout the forecast period beginning Friday.
For the North-Central region, the agency predicted sunny skies with patches of cloud during the period, while the southern states are expected to witness sunny conditions with cloud cover in the morning hours.
However, NiMet noted that the thunderstorm accompanied by light rainfall recorded in Benin City, Edo State, on Christmas Day is in line with its forecast of isolated thunderstorms later in the day across parts of the southern region.
According to the agency, similar weather conditions, including isolated thunderstorms with light rains, are expected later in the day over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo and Bayelsa states.
On Saturday, NiMet said sunny skies will prevail across the northern region, while the North-Central states will experience sunshine with patches of cloud.
The southern region is expected to be sunny in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated later in the day over parts of Edo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa states.
The agency further projected sunny conditions over the northern and North-Central regions on Sunday, while the southern part of the country will experience morning sunshine with patches of cloud.
NiMet advised motorists to exercise caution when driving under rainy conditions and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
