The Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, has clarified that it is not responsible for the closure of the level crossing at PWD in and out of GRA IKEJA but the Lagos State Government.
The Managing Director of NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa, made this clarification in an exclusive interview on “Bonaseri”, a Bond FM Traffic Monitoring Programme, while reacting to recent calls for the reopening of the route due to traffic snarls encountered by motorists and businesses since the closure on the eighteenth of last month.
Dr Opeifa said the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation effected the closure but with the notification and permission of the Railway authorities, on the grounds of accidents on the railtrack in that axis.
He hinted that the decision included an immediate plan to construct an Overpass Bridge at PWD to ease vehicular traffic.
Recent appeals for reopening of the PWD vehicular crossing to ease the sufferings of motorists, included that of the Awuse of Onigbongbo, Oba Oluwasegun Adeyemi – Ajasa, in whose jurisdiction is the route.

Oba Adeyemi-Ajasa noted that reopening the route would address the concerns of residents and businesses in the community and enhance overall transportation efficiency.
He stressed that easing traffic flow would decrease travel time for commuters, making daily life more comfortable inside the GRA and environs.
