The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has announced establishment of Tourism and Entertainment Unit to develop the tourism potentials of the Corporation as a source of revenue generation.
Consequently, the Mobolaji-Johnson Railway Terminal in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, would be transformed into a hub featuring shopping complex, cinema hall and high-tech center where people can make shopping, relax and acquire knowledge respectively.
At the inaugural “Fusion Railway” exhition, shopping and games held at Mobolaji-Johnson railway terminal complex recently, during departure of passengers from Lagos to Ibadan, Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said that under the ongoing reform agenda, the Kubwa, Rigassa, Itakpe, Warri and Obafemi Awolowo railway terminals would also serve as hub.
He said that these terminals would serve as venue for exhibitions, games, sales of food and drinks amongst others during eid-el-kabir, eid-el-fitri, christmas, new year as well as Independence day and June 12, celebrations, serving as a rallying point for people to come together and share ideas.
Dr. Opeifa, noted that the corporation is undergoing transformation adding that President Bola Tinubu would soon unveil details of plan to link all the 36 state capitals by rail in the next 10 to 20 years.
