The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has said the tax law currently being implemented by the agency is the only certified version passed by the National Assembly.
Adedeji made the clarification amid controversy over the gazetted tax law, stressing that there cannot be multiple versions of the legislation, as only the National Assembly is empowered to transmit a certified true copy.
“There can never be any other one. The National Assembly publicly transmitted the certified copy of the law they passed, and that is the only version given to us,” he said.
According to him, the legislature formally read and distributed the certified copy before forwarding it to the NRS, adding that the agency has no basis to recognise or gazette any other version.
“For us, there is no need to gazette different copies because there can only be one law,” Adedeji stated, describing the debate over multiple versions as a non-issue.
He maintained that no other document exists outside what was duly transmitted by the National Assembly.
