The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Federal Ministry of Works have renewed their commitment to closer collaboration in boosting the welfare of engineers and advancing infrastructural development across Nigeria.
This resolve was reinforced during a courtesy visit by NSE President, Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, to the Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi in Abuja.
NSE in a statement, says, Mrs. Oguntala emphasized the need for a stronger strategic partnership between the Society and the Ministry, particularly in enhancing the capacity of engineers within the Ministry’s workforce.
She urged the expansion of NSE’s ongoing training programmes for both young and seasoned professionals, as well as increased support for industrial training opportunities for engineering students and NYSC placements for engineering graduates, to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical field experience.
According to her, the NSE is ready to design tailored training modules to meet the Ministry’s specific needs and proposed joint community-based engineering projects.
This the NSE President said, is aimed at improving livelihoods through innovative solutions.
Mrs. Oguntala assured the Ministry of NSE’s continued advocacy for the welfare and professional growth of engineers serving in public infrastructure roles.
Responding, Mr. Umahi praised the NSE President’s vision and pledged the Ministry’s full support for the proposed initiatives, reiterating his commitment to improving engineers’ welfare, strengthening technical capacity, and accelerating infrastructure delivery nationwide.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Olufunso Adebiyi, also welcomed the proposals and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to work closely with the NSE on all agreed areas of partnership.
