The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mrs. Margaret Aina Oguntala, has called for evidence-based strategies and engineering-led interventions.

This is geared at addressing the recurring petroleum tanker explosions across Nigeria.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day national workshop organised by the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), a division of the NSE, Mrs. Oguntala stressed the urgent need for technical and policy-driven solutions to stem the tide of deadly tanker incidents.

The workshop, held on May 27 and 28 at the National Engineering Centre, Abuja, has the theme, “The Problem of Petroleum Tanker Explosion in Nigeria: The Issues, the Challenges, and the Solutions.”

The event drew participants from various sectors, including safety engineers, government officials, emergency response agencies, and industry stakeholders.

Discussions centered on practical measures to enhance safety in petroleum transport and ensure regulatory compliance.

Through technical presentations and expert panels, the workshop aimed to develop actionable recommendations that can inform national policy and engineering practice.

Mrs. Oguntala praised NISafetyE for its leadership in convening the forum, describing it as a timely platform for collaboration and innovation.

She reaffirmed the NSE’s commitment to supporting initiatives that safeguard lives, strengthen infrastructure, and uphold engineering standards nationwide.
