The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for approving the Renewed Hope Nigeria-First Procurement Policy.

This policy prioritizes the use of Nigerian goods, services, and expertise in public procurement, a move aimed at promoting economic self-sufficiency and empowering local industries.

In a statement, the President, NSE, Mrs Margaret Oguntala says, the society welcomes this directive, which is expected to boost local manufacturing, skills development, and technology transfer, ultimately contributing to economic growth and job creation.

The policy requires all government agencies to prioritize local products and services in their procurement decisions, with exceptions only granted where no viable local option exists.

The Society has expressed its support for the policy and its willingness to collaborate with the government to ensure successful implementation.

According to the NSE president, the NSE believes that this policy will foster innovation, strengthen Nigeria’s engineering sector, and create sustainable development opportunities for the nation.

To ensure the policy’s effectiveness, she has urged the government to swiftly issue an Executive Order, providing a legal foundation for the policy.

Mrs Oguntala said, with this move, the NSE is confident that Nigeria can harness its local potential, reduce reliance on imports, and drive economic growth.
