NSF: Golden Eaglets, Flamingos Advance to Medal Matches

The Golden Eaglets will play for the bronze medal in the men’s football event at the 22nd National Sports Festival after losing 1-2 to Team Ogun in the second semi-final on Sunday in Ikenne-Remo.

In the first semi-final, Team Kwara beat Team Kaduna 1-0 to secure a spot in the final, which will take place on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.In the women’s football event, Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, reached the final with a narrow 1-0 win over Team Ogun.

Shakirat Moshood scored from the penalty spot late in the match, sealing the victory for the 2022 FIFA World Cup bronze medallists.The Flamingos will now face Team Delta in the final on Tuesday. Team Delta advanced after a convincing 4-1 win over Team Osun in their semi-final.

The third-place matches for both the male and female events will be held at Remo Stars Stadium, while the finals will be played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex.

Both the Golden Eaglets and the Flamingos are taking part in the Sports Festival through the National Sports Commission’s Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) programme, which aims to develop young talents across the country.
