The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has launched an investigation into the runway excursion involving an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft at Benin Airport on Thursday.
The aircraft, operating from Lagos to Benin with 63 passengers and five crew members on board, overran the end of Runway Zero-Five after landing.
NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, says everyone on board was safely evacuated and no injuries were recorded.
She adds that the Bureau’s Go Team arrived at the scene within minutes to secure evidence, inspect the aircraft and runway, and interview the flight crew as part of efforts to determine the cause of the occurrence.
According to her, the NCAA and other relevant airport authorities have been notified, while the aircraft has been secured.
She says a preliminary report will be released within 30 days, with a final report and safety recommendations to follow, urging the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete their work in line with international aviation safety standards.
