NSIB Investigates Nose Gear Collapse of Flybird Aircraft at Kano Airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into a serious incident involving a Hawker 800XP aircraft, registration 5N-ISB, operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited, at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (DNKN) in Kano State.

The non-scheduled domestic passenger flight departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at approximately 09:20 local time on Sunday, December 14, 2025, bound for Kano with eight persons on board: two cockpit crew, one cabin crew, and five passengers.

In a statement by the bureau, during the approach phase, the flight crew reported a landing gear indication anomaly, prompting them to request and perform multiple low passes over the runway for visual confirmation by air traffic controllers.

Kano Tower, it says, confirmed that all three landing gears appeared fully extended on each pass.

The aircraft subsequently landed on Runway 06 at about 10:34 local time.

However, the nose landing gear collapsed during the landing roll.

Fortunately, all eight persons on board disembarked safely with no reported injuries.

The NSIB has activated its Go-Team, and investigators will thoroughly examine the aircraft systems, operational procedures, maintenance records, and crew actions to determine the circumstances leading to the occurrence.

The Bureau emphasized that the investigation is purely for safety enhancement and to prevent future incidents, not to apportion blame or liability.

It assures further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
