NUJ praises Women ….as they observe International Women’s Day!

On this International Women’s Day, the President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr Chris Isiguzo , has commended, the resilience, dedication, and remarkable achievements of Nigerian women across all spheres of life.

He says, from the boardrooms to the newsrooms, from the corridors of power to the heart of the communities, Nigerian women have been at the forefront of driving progress, promoting inclusivity, and shaping the destiny of our nation.

Under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” Isiguzo stated, ” it is fitting to pay tribute to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and its distinguished leadership, led by Hajia Aisha Ibrahim. NAWOJ embodies the spirit of empowerment, advocacy, and excellence in journalism, championing the rights of women journalists and amplifying their voices in the media landscape “.

According to him, through their relentless efforts, NAWOJ has not only shattered glass ceilings but has also paved the way for greater gender equality and diversity within the media industry.

Isiguzo explained and I quote, ” Under successive leaderships, NAWOJ has been a beacon of inspiration, driving initiatives that promote gender-sensitive reporting, advocate for women’s rights, and empower women journalists to excel in their profession “.

 ” Their commitment to excellence, professionalism, and inclusivity has earned them the admiration and respect of their peers and colleagues across the country.

Beyond the realm of journalism, adding that, ” Nigerian women continue to make indelible contributions to nation-building, community development, and social progress “. Dr Isiguzo

” They are entrepreneurs, educators, activists, and leaders, breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and transforming lives with their passion, resilience, and unwavering determination “. He said

He urged everyone to celebrate the achievements of NAWOJ and its leadership, while also honouring the countless Nigerian women who inspire inclusion through their actions, their words, and their commitment to making a difference, appealing to governments at all levels, to recognise their contributions to nation-building, their resilience in the face of adversity, and their tireless efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
