NYSC To Further Empower Corps Members as It marks 50yrs of Existence

Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed

The Director General, National Youths Service Corps NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed says as the Scheme marks its fifty years of existence, plans are underway to improve on its training programmes for Corps members so as to further empower them to be employers of labour.

Brigadier Ahmed made this known when he visited the Lagos State NYSC temporary Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja Lagos.

He said that no doubt the NYSC had lived up to the purpose for which it was established fifty years ago which was to foster National Unity and Development.

To this end, the NYSC boss said that the scheme had decided to impact more relevant knowledge in Corps members which would make them employers of labour not only in Nigeria but in the global community.

Brigadier Ahmed explained that with these additional skills, Corps members would have wider knowledge on how to create jobs so that the number of young graduates that floods the labour market every year would reduce.

While Brigadier Ahmed advised the Corps members to adhere strictly to Orientation camp rules to avoid being sanctioned, he appealed to them not to engage in unnessary travels that might endanger their lives.

The NYSC boss said while the Corps would continue to work hard at ensuring that the Corps members were secured at all times, they should on their part adhere to safety tips they had been given on camp.

On her part, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs.Yetunde Baderinwa seized the opportunity of the D.G’s visit to call his attention to some of the challenges being experienced in the Lagos State Orientation camp.

Part of which are befitting permanent Orientation camp, a more spacious hall for lectures and additional chairs.

The Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed
however, promised to provide more chairs for the camp while he looked into solving other problems accordingly.
