Oborevwori Reconnects Long-dark Delta Communities, Unveils Bold Electricity Revival Blueprint

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to tackle long-standing electricity challenges in Delta State, combining policy reforms with major infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving power supply and boosting economic activity.

Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the rehabilitated 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the governor revealed that several communities which had been without electricity for more than a decade have now been reconnected to the national grid.

According to him, the reconnection is already improving living conditions and opening new opportunities for businesses and local economic growth.Oborevwori said his administration is adopting a proactive and structured approach to resolving the state’s power challenges.

Key interventions include the extension of 33KV transmission lines, installation of new transformers and rehabilitation of critical electricity infrastructure in underserved communities.

“We are taking deliberate and practical steps to address power supply challenges across Delta State. Efforts are ongoing to extend 33KV lines, install transformers and rehabilitate critical electricity infrastructure,” the governor said.

He explained that the enactment of the Delta State Electricity Law, alongside the approval of the Delta State Electricity Policy by the State Executive Council, has created a strong legal and institutional framework to address electricity challenges more effectively.

“As a sub-national, we are fully aware of the power challenges in some parts of the state. With these policy instruments in place, we are better positioned to drive sustainable improvements in electricity supply,” he added.

The governor also disclosed that a reputable electricity consulting firm has been engaged to drive the implementation of his administration’s MORE Agenda in the power sector.

According to him, the firm is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of electricity infrastructure across the state, with a final report expected soon to guide further interventions aimed at improving power supply statewide.
