The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Dr Abiodun Oluseye, has disclosed that the institution will on Wednesday, 26th February 2025 graduate 9,320 students and unveil an electric car made by its students at its sixth combined convocation.
He made the disclosure at a briefing within the school premises in Ogun State.
Oluseye stated that of the graduating students, 178 had distinctions, while 2,138 had upper credits.
The news conference, which was part of activities for the convocation, examined the achievements and challenges of the institution’s management.
The Rector, who described the institution as one driven by tech, promised that it would remain on track with the production of mind-blowing innovations.
According to him, the electric car is the brainchild of a few students in the Engineering department, a response to the contemporary energy and mobility crisis faced by Nigerian society and others.
“We are banking on the friends of the school in the corporate world that will be present at its lunch on Wednesday to see its feasibility and partner with the school for its commercialisation.
“The cardinal objective of OGITECH is to breed a student community with attractive baits in tech-result-oriented initiatives to compel collaboration between the school and the industry.
“It is my joy that every one of them is leaving the institution equipped to make a difference in society and not a job seeker,” he said.
Oluseye advised students to continue to expand their horizons by constantly upgrading their knowledge to continue to fit into the rapidly emerging technology world.
He said that the institution still needs government and private sector assistance to improve its productivity aimed at the advancement of the nation’s economy.
He added that the school could not be said to have overcome its teething problems, such as shortage of funds, scary energy bills, and other concerns, but we’re making efforts to solve the problems.
“46 courses run by the school are accredited by the National Board for Technical Education this is no mean feat as all sections of the education community worked hard to ensure those are realised.
The institution’s executive, commended the supportive Governor of Ogun State, Dr. Dapo Abiodun, and the institution’s Governing Council, led by Mr Kehinde Akinsoji, has changed the status of the school for the better.
